Abstract
439,666. Air compressors. SULZER FRERES SOC. ANON., Winterthur, Switzerland. March 8, 1935, No. 7263. Convention date, March 13, 1934. [Class 8 (i)] An air compressor of the free piston type has the power developed in the internal -combustion cylinder controlled in accordance with the position reached by the piston at the end of its stroke. The fuel pump 30 is operated by a rod 28 attached to the piston. The spill valve of this pump is moved by the rod 46 controlled by the liquid cylinder 40, the pressure in which is reduced by a long stroke of the piston 27 opening the valve 35 and allowing the liquid to escape through port 39. The amount of air supplied to the compressor is controlled by the valve 22 operated by the piston 25 exposed to the pressure in the receiver 20. In a modification the separate fuel pumps for several compressors and the air pressure control act on a common control shaft.
