439,443. Refrigerating. HOOVER, Ltd., Perivale, Middlesex.-(Hoover Co. ; North Canton, Ohio, U.S.A.) Nov. 5, 1934, No. 31757. [Class 29] Absorption machines and systems.-Rectification of the vapour passing from the generator to the condenser of a continuous-cycle system is effected by condensed refrigerant brought into intimate contact with the vapour. The rectifier may comprise headers F<1>, F<2> connected by tubes the upper parts of which are surrounded by a casing c<2> which communicates through pipes c<1>, E<4> with the condenser C and the evaporator E respectively, and by a valved-pipe J<1> with an auxiliary condenser J the condensate from which is distributed to the rectifier tubes. The vapour evolved in the generator B separates in the chamber D and passes through the pipe D<2> to the header F<2> and up the tubes to the header F<1> and the condenser C. Weak liquor flows through the pipe B<6> to the absorber A from which the strong liquor passes by the pipe A<2> to the header F<2> and thence through the pipe B<5> to the generator. An inert gas circulates between the absorber and the evaporator. In a modification, the casing C<2> is dispensed with and the header F<1>, Fig. 2, is provided with auxiliary condensers J. In another arrangement, operating without inert gas, rectification is effected in a column F, Fig. 4, by condensate supplied to the column through a valved-pipe M<2> communicating with a reservoir M connected to the condenser C. A pump K returns the strong liquor from the absorber A to the column. In a further modification, rectification is effected in a column having an auxiliary condenser projecting laterally therefrom as described in Specification 439,442.
