Abstract

398.691. Refrigerating. SULZER FRERES SOC. ANON., Winterthur, Switzerland. Dec. 19, 1932, Nos. 35932, 35933, and 35934. Convention dates, Dec. 24, 1931, Feb. 11, 1932 and Oct. 21, 1932. [Class 29.] Compression machines and systems. -A machine comprises a substantially cylindrical horizontallydisposed unit having evaporation and condensationspaces 1, 2 respectively provided with brine and cooling water tubes 11, 15 and separated by heat insulation 6, and a support G for the rotary compressor K and its driving motor M. The refrigerant vapour is discharged by the compressor through the pipe 17 into the condensation space 2, the lubricant entrained by the vapour being trapped in a pocket 31 from which it returns hrough the pipe 25 to the compressor. Surplus oil overflows through the pipe 32 and collects with the condensate at the bottom 18 of the space 2. From the condensation space the condensate together with some lubricant flows through the pipe 19 and a valve 40 into a chamber and thence through a pipe 21 into the lower part of the evaporation space 1. The valve 40 is controlled by a float 40<1> in a chamber 20 connected by pipes 41, 43 to the vapour and liquid or lubricant spaces respectively of the evaporator. By connecting the pipe 43 to the lubricant sump 26 of the evaporation space lubricant will be forced into the float chamber. The vaporized refrigerant passes through the tube 22 to the compressor suction port 34, while lubricant is withdrawn from the sump 26 through the pipe 28. The support G for the motor and the compressor is resiliently carried upon rubber cords seated in grooves 29 in the support. The brine-circulating pump 45, Fig. 5, and its motor m may be housed in an end cover of the unit, instead of being secured to the cover as in Fig. 3.
