Abstract
438,760. Collapsable chairs. HATHERLEY WORKS, Ltd., and ASHWELL, G. R., Melbourne Street, Gloucester. Jan. 24, 1935, No. 2334. [Class 52 (ii)] In chairs of the type comprising front legs 10 and a back rest 14 pivoted in unison to the side frames 15 of the seat and rear legs 16 also pivoted to the seat, the rear legs are provided with a transverse stay 17 to engage the seat frame to limit their opening movement and links 19, 22 between the rear legs and the back rest cause the rear legs to be folded under the seat automatically with the downward folding of the back rest. The front legs 10 interconnected by a stay 11 and inclined struts 12 are pivoted to the front of the side members 15 of the seat and connected by arm rests 13 to the back rest 14. The rear legs 16 are pivoted to the side members 15 behind the pivots of the back rest and are connected to the back rest for operation therewith by the links 19, 22 the link 19 being fixed to a transverse bar 18 of the back rest and the link 22 being pivoted between the link 19 and the rear legs. Downward movement of the back rest 14 thus folds the rear legs under the seat and also through the arm rests 13 folds the front legs 10 to collapse the chair. Cross-bars 17, 18 on the rear legs and back rest abut the seat to limit the unfolding movement. Canvas is stretched between cross-bars of the seat and back rest. Specification 419,243 is referred to.
