Abstract

o-Oxyazo dyes are made by coupling diazotized 2-aminophenol or a non-sulphonated substitution product thereof containing no substituent in the 6-position with a peri-aryl-aminonaphtholmonosulphonic acid. They yield on wool blue-green to green tints when afterchromed or by the one-bath chrome process. In an example, the following dyestuff is described (alkaline coupling): (1) 2-amino-phenol --> 1 - phenylamino - 8 - naphthol - 4 - sulphonic acid. Specification 5749/06, [Class 2], is referred to. Samples have been furnished under Sect. 2 (5) of the dyestuff (alkaline, acid or neutral coupling): (1) 4-nitro-2-aminophenol --> 1 - (4<1>-chlorophenyl) - amino-8-naphthol-4-sulphonic acid; (2) 5-nitro-2-aminophenol --> 1 - phenylamino-8-naphthol-4-sulphonic acid; (3) and (4) 5-nitro-4-methyl-2-aminophenol --> 1-(2<1>- or 4<1>-tolyl)-amino-8-naphthol-4-sulpho acid; (5) 4-chloro-5-nitro-2-aminophenol --> 1-phenylamino-8-naphthol-4-sulphonic acid; (6) 3 : 4 : 5-trichloro-2-aminophenol --> 1-(4<1>-tolylamino)-8-naphthol-4-sulphonic acid. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 comprises the use of diazotized 2-aminophenol and non-sulphonated derivatives thereof generally and includes the following examples: 3 : 4 : 6-trichloro-2-aminophenol or 6-chlor-4-nitro-2-aminophenol --> 1-(4<1>-tolyl)-amino-8-naphthol-4-sulphonic acid, 4-methyl-6-nitro-2-aminophenol --> 1-(4<1>-chlorophenyl)-amino-8-naphthol-4-sulphonic acid, and 3 : 4 : 6-trichloro-2-aminophenol --> 1-phenylamino-8-naphthol-5-sulphonic acid.
