Abstract
Monoazo dyes, capable of dyeing wool with or without chroming by the after-chroming method, are made by coupling diazotized 2-aminophenol-4-phenylketone-31-sulphonic acid, or a substitution product thereof not containing a nitro group, with 2-aminonaphthalene-3-carboxylic acid. Substitution products specified are the 41-chloro, 41-methoxy and 41-methyl derivatives of 2-aminophenol-4-phenylketone-31-sulphonic acid. The diazo components are obtainable from sulphonated 3-nitro-4-chlorodiphenyl ketones by replacing the chlorine atom by a hydroxy group by heating with soda lye, and reduction of the nitro group. Specification 324,090, [Class 2 (iii)], is referred to. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 is not limited as regards the substituents which may be present in the diazo components. It refers also to the application of the dyestuffs to wool by the single bath chroming process. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
