Abstract

Azo dyes, soluble chromium compounds of; regenerated cellulose, dyeing.--Azo dyestuffs containing chromium are obtained by treating with agents yielding chromium the dyestuffs obtained by coupling diazotized 5-nitro-2-aminophenol in acid solution with a component of the formula <FORM:0371449/IV/1> in which Pv is an aryl residue. The products dye regenerated celluloses, such as viscose and copper silks, fast green tints. In an example the dyestuff 5-nitro-2-aminophenol --> (acid) O-p-toluenesulphonyl-2 : 5 : 7-acid is boiled for 15 hours with an aqueous solution of chromium fluoride, formate, or sulphate; the product gives on regenerated cellulose uniform green dyeings fast to light. An example of the dyeing process for viscose is given. O-p-Toluenesulphonyl-2 : 5 : 7-acid is obtained by treating 2 : 5 : 7-acid with p-toluenesulphonic chloride in presence of free alkali.
