Jan. 11, 1923 Azo dyes, soluble chromium compounds of.- The azo dyes obtained by coupling o-oxydiazo compounds with pyrazolones are converted into chromium compounds by heating them in aqueous solution, under pressure, in the absence of a water-soluble organic solvent, with chromium compounds in such proportions as to provide at least one atom of chromium to each chromable group in the dyestuff molecule. In an example, the dyestuff obtained by coupling diazotized 4-nitro-2-aminophenol-6-sulphonic acid with 1-phenyl-3-methyl-5-pyrazolone is heated with chromium formate in an autoclave; the product, obtained by salting out, may be used directly for dyeing or it may be converted into the more soluble sodium salt bv treatment with alkaline agents, such as sodium carbonate or caustic soda. It dyes wool from an acid bath in clear yellowish-orange shades of good fastness properties. Specifications 16916/15, 116,535, 210.669, and 283,979 are referred to.
