Abstract

The azo dyes obtained by reducing the products made by coupling nitrated diazotized 1-amino-2-oxynaphthalene-4-sulphonic acid with a naphthol (see Specification 214,629) are converted into soluble zinc compounds by treatment with a zinc yielding agent such as zinc chloride dissolved in caustic alkali or ammoniacal zinc chloride or hydroxide. They dye wool in violet to brown-black tints changed to grey or black by after-chroming. According to examples, zinc compounds of the reduced dyestuffs from nitrated diazotized 1-amino-2-oxynaphthalene-4-sulphonic acid and a -or b -naphthol are prepared.
