Abstract

A copper-containing azo dye is made by coupling two molecular proportions of diazotized 6 - chloro - 2 - aminophenol - 4 - sulphonic acid with one molecular proportion of the urea of J acid in aqueous alkaline medium (e.g. sodium carbonate) and treating the resulting dyestuff with copper or an agent yielding copper (e.g. copper sulphate). It dyes cotton in bluish-red shades fast to light. Specifications 1611/15 and 12932/15, [both in Class 2 (iii)], are referred to.
