Abstract

Regenerated celluloses; dyeing.-Regenerated cellulose is dyed in even red to brown shades with the disazo dyes made by tetrazotizing 2-nitro-benzidine or 2 : 21-dinitrobenzidine and coupling in alkaline medium with 1 : 5 : 7-aminonaphthol sulphonic acid or an N-substituted derivative thereof (2 mols.) or with 1 : 5 : 7-acid or an N-substituted derivative thereof (1 mol.) in alkaline medium and a phenol, naphthol, or a pyrazolone, or sulphonic or carboxylic derivative thereof (1 mol.) in alkaline or neutral medium. In an example, viscose silk is dyed violet-brown with the dyestuff 2-nitrobenzidine \sQ salicylic acid and 1 : 5 : 7-acid; using 2 : 21-dinitrobenzidine yellowish brown shades are obtained. Other coupling components specified are o-cresotinic acid, N-benzoyl-1 : 5 : 7-acid and 1-41-sulphophenyl-3-methyl-5 -pyrazolone. Specifications 2370/93, [Class 2, Acids and salts, Organic &c.], 13236/13, and 294,922, [both in Class 2 (iii), Dyes &c.] are referred to.
