Abstract

Azo dyes are made by coupling 2 : 8 : 6-acid in an acid medium with the diazo compound of an amine of the formula <FORM:0465955/IV/1> wherein at least one of the groups represented by R is an aliphatic hydrocarbon chain, an aromatic, aromatic-aliphatic, or a hydroaromatic group or in which the sulphamide nitrogen is a part of the five membered ring of carbazole, the other group represented by R being either hydrogen or one of the aforesaid groups. They dye animal fibres in fast red shades. In examples, the following diazo components are specified: the anilide, diphenylamide, ethyl-2<1>-methoxy-5<1>-chloranilide, hexahydroanilide, benzyl-m-toulidide, ethylanilide and carbazylide of 1-aminobenzene-2-sulphonic acid. Specification 312,582, [Class 2 (iii)], is referred to. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 comprises also the oxyethylanilide and dihydroxypropylanilide as diazo components. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
