Abstract

Diazotized 2 : 5-dichloro-4-nitraniline or 5-chloro-2 : 4-dinitraniline is coupled with a N-alkyl-N-dioxypropyl amine of the benzene series which is unsubstituted in p-position to the amino group and contains no substituents inducing solubility in water. Bluish-red to violet dyes applicable to cellulose esters are obtained. Examples are given in which (1) diazotized 5-chloro-2 : 4-dinitraniline is coupled with N-ethyl-N-dioxypropyl-m-toluidine and N-amyl-N-dioxypropylaniline; (2) diazotized 2 : 5-dichloro-4-nitraniline is coupled with N-methyl-N-dioxypropylaniline; N-propyl- or N-butyl-N-dioxypropylamines as above defined may also be used as coupling components. N-Alkyl-N-dioxypropyl amines of the benzene series specified above are obtainable by treating the corresponding N-alkyl amines with a glycerol a -halogenhydrin, e.g. glycerol a -chlorhydrin, which may be taken as the crude product obtained from glycerol and hydrogen chloride. The specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 defines the diazo component as a negatively substituted diazo component of the benzene series containing no solubilizing group, and includes examples in which (1) diazotized 6 - chloro - (or 6 - bromo) - 2 : 4 - dinitraniline is coupled with 2-methoxy-5-methyl-N-ethyl-N-dioxypropylaniline and N-ethyl-N-dioxypropyl-m-toluidine; (2) diazotized 2 : 4-dinitraniline is coupled with N - ethyl - N - dioxypropyl-m-toluidine. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
