Abstract

294,284. British Dyestuffs Corporation, Ltd., and Brightman, R. April 22, 1927. Azo dyes are obtained from diazotized 4-nitro- 41-aminodiphenyl sulphide as follows :-(1) monazo dyes by coupling with an amine or phenol of the benzene or naphthalene series or a sulphonic or carboxylic acid derivative thereof, (2) secondary disazo dyes by coupling with an amine of the benzene or naphthalene series capable of rediazotization after being coupled, rediazotizing, and coupling with a component. The sulphonated monoazo dyes yield on wool dyeings fast to milling. the disazo dyes are suitable for regenerated cellulose materials, and the dyes of either type containing not more than one sulphonic group are suitable for cellulose esters. The following examples are specified :-(1) the monoazo dyes obtained with 2-naphthylamine-6-sulphonic acid and 2-naphthol-7-sulphonic acid as coupling components yield on wool orange and yellowish-red dyeings respectively; (2) the monoazo dye obtained with 2-amino-8-naphthol-6-sulphonic acid as coupling component yields a red dyeing on wool ; (3) the monoazo dye obtained with 2- naphthol-6-sulphonic acid as coupling component yields a yellowish-red dyeing on wool: (4) the secondary disazo dye 4-nitro-4<1>-aminodiphenyl sulphide # m-amino-p-cresol methyl ether # 2-phenylamino-5-naphthol-7-sulphonic acid yields violet dyeings on viscose silk and wool; (5) the monoazo dyes obtained with m-phenylenediamine, salicylic acid, and 2-naphthol as coupling components yield on cellulose acetate silk yellow-brown, yellow, and reddish-brown dyeings respectively.
