Abstract

The invention comprises water-insoluble dyestuffs of formula <FORM:0760750/IV(b)/1> where Ar is an arylene radical of the benzene series with - N=N - and <FORM:0760750/IV(b)/2> in p - position to each other, R is an hydroxyalkyl radicle and R1 an alkyl or hydroxyalkyl radicle and the nucleus containing CN is further substituted by alkyl, halogen or cyano radicles the dyestuffs being free of sulphonic and carboxylic acid groups. They are made by coupling diazotized cyanoanilines with the appropriate amines. Diazo components used in examples and listed in a table are 1 - amino - 3 - chloro -, - 2 - methyl-, -2, 3-and-2, 6-dibromo-and 2, 6- dichloro 4 cyanobenzene, 1-amino-2-methyl-and - 3 - chloro - 4 - cyano-6-bromobenzene 1 - amino - 2 - cyano - 5 - chlorobenzene, 1 - amino - 3 - and - 5 - cyano - 4 - chlorobenzene, - 1 - amino - 2, 4 - dicyanobenzene, 1 - amino- 2, 4, - dicyano - 6 - methyl -, - 6 - chloro - and - 3, 6 - dimethylbenzene, 1 - amino - 2, 3, 4 - trichloro - 6 - cyanobenzene and 1 - amino - 2, 6 - dicyano - 4 - chloro - benzene and azo components likewise mentioned are 1 - N, N- - dihydroxy ethyl - and 1 - N - n-butyl - N - hydroxyethyl - benzene and - 3 - methylbenzene, N - ethyl - N - hydroxyethylaminobenzene and 1 - N - n - butyl - N - hydroxyethylamino - 2 - methoxy - 5 - methylbenzene. The dyestuffs dye polyamide and cellulose acetate fibres in yellowish orange, red, red-violet and bordeaux shades.
