Abstract

The invention comprises monoazo dyestuffs of the formula <FORM:0722474/IV (c)/1> where R is a benzene or naphthalene residue which may be substituted by chlorine, bromine, fluorine, alkyl, fluoroalkyl or further alkylsulphonyl groups, R1 is a benzene nucleus which is free from halogen substituents but may be alkyl-substituted meta to the amino group, and R11 is alkyl or hydroxyalkyl. They are made by coupling diazotized alkyl-SO2-R-NH2 with the appropriate tertiary amine and dye cellulose acetate, polyamide and polyester fibres in fast yellow or orange shades. Examples show the production of the following dyestuffs: 2-chloro - 4 - methyl - sulphonyl - aniline --> N - hydroxyethyl - N - cyanoethyl - aniline, 4 - bromo - 2 - methylsulphonyl - aniline --> N - hydroxyethyl - N - cyanoethyl - m - toluidine, 2 : 4 - di - (methylsulphonyl) - aniline --> N - hydroxyethyl - N - cyanoethyl - aniline or m - toluidine, 4- or 5 - methylsulphonyl - a - naphthylamine --> N - hydroxyethyl - N - cyanoethyl - aniline and 2 - bromo - 4 - methyl - sulphonyl - a - naphthylamine --> N - hydroxyethyl - N - cyanoethyl - aniline. Diazotization is carried out with nitrosylsulphuric acid. In further examples, (1) acetate rayon is dyed with the first-mentioned dyestuff in a soap bath, the dyestuff being dispersed with Turkey red oil or other surface active agent, preferably also with an inorganic salt; (2) prints are obtained on acetate rayon and polyamide with the same dyestuff pasted with diethylene glycol and gum arabic. Other components are specified in which R11 may be methyl, ethyl or hydroxypropyl and the cyanoalkyl group may be cyanomethyl.
