Abstract

Disazo dyes giving on cellulose ester and ether materials grey shades having good fastness to light and washing and good dischargeability are made by coupling a diazotised nitro- or chlornitro-aniline with a 2 : 5-dimethoxy- or diethoxyaniline, again diazotising a coupling with 1 : 5-aminonaphthol in an acid medium. They may be applied according to Specification 224,077, [Class 15 (ii)]. In examples the following dyes are described: (1) and (2) o- or p-nitraniline --> 2 : 5-dimethoxyaniline --> 1 : 5-aminonaphthol; (3) o - chlor - p - nitroaniline --> 2 : 5 - diethoxyaniline --> 1 : 5 - aminonaphthol. Specification 298,993, [Class 15 (ii)], also is referred to.
