Abstract

Disazo dyes are produced by coupling diazotized m-aminobenzene-azo-salicylic acid or homologues or derivatives thereof with 1-acidylamino8-naphtholsulphonic acids; they are especially useful for printing red shades on cotton with chromium acetate. The m-aminobenzene-azosalicylic acids are produced by coupling diazotized m-nitranilines or acidyl-m-phenylenediamines with salicylic acids and reducing or saponifying. Components specified are m-phenylene-and m-toluylene-diamines and their sulphonic acids, salicylic and cresotinic acids, salicylic sulphonic acid, 1-acetylamino-8-naphthol-4-sulphonic acid and -4 : 6-disulphonic acid, 1-acetyl- or -benzoyl-amino-8-naphthol-3 : 6-disulphonic acid. The following examples are given:-(1) diazotized m-aminobenzene-azo-salicylic acid is coupled with 1-acetylamino-8-naphthol-4 : 6- or -3 : 6-disulphonic acid; (2) diazotized oxalyl-2 : 4-toluylenediamine-5-sulphonic acid is coupled with salicylic acid and the monoazo dye saponified, rediazotized, and coupled with 1-acetylamino-8-naphthol-3 : 6-disulphonic acid: the reduction of the dyestuffs with zinc and hydrochloric acid is also mentioned.
