535,110. Dyes. GEIGY AKT.-GES, J. R. Nov. 21, 1939, No. 30496. Convention date, Aug. 11. [Class 2 (iii)] Monoazo dyes, yielding, especially on wool, dyeings which are green when after-chromed and showing little variation of the tints with varying acidity of the dyebath, are obtained by coupling the diazotized 5-chloro-, 5-methyl- or 6-methyl derivatives, of 2-aminophenol-4- sulphonic acid with 2:3-aminonaphthoic acid. The coupling may be facilitated by an addition of pyridine or of naphthalene-#- sulphonic acid. Specification 301,423, [Class 2 (iii)], is referred to. 5- Chloro-2-aminophenol-4-sulphonic acid is obtained by reducing, with iron and acetic acid, the nitro group in the product of the action of boiling caustic potash on the potassium salt of 2:4-dichloro-5-nitrobenzenesulphonic acid.
