Abstract

Secondary disazo dyes are prepared by coupling a diazo compound of the benzene or naphthalene series with 4-methyl-2-aminobenzoic acid, rediazotizing, and coupling with 2-amino-5-naphthol-7-sulphonic acid or a derivative thereof. In an example, diazotized 2 : 5-dichloraniline-4-sulphonic acid is coupled with 4-methyl-2-aminobenzoic acid, and the product rediazotized and coupled with 2-phenylamino-5-naphthol-7-sulphonic acid; 2-anisidine-4-sulphonic acid and 5 : 51-dioxy-2 : 21-dinaphthyl-7 : 71-disulphonic acid (1 mol.) are also specified as first and end components respectively. The products dye cotton in bluish-red shades changed to fast violet-blue by after-treatment with copper sulphate.
