Abstract

Monoazo dyes are made by coupling a diazo compound of an aromatic aminosulphonic acid with the condensated product of 2-naphthol-3-carboxylic acid and an aromatic sulphonylchloride of the formula <FORM:0341969/IV/1> In examples 4-toluidine-3-sulphonic acid and 2-chloro-5-toluidine-4-sulphonic acid are used as diazo components and p-toluenesulphonylchloride as the aromatic sulphonylchloride. The dyes are soluble in water and suitable for the manufacture of lakes.
