436,960. Gas-retort settings. GAS LIGHT & COKE CO., and NICHOLS, J. A., 84, Horseferry Road, Westminster. April 18, 1934, No. 11709. [Classes 51 (i) and 51 (ii)] Combustion products, returning.-In a bench setting for gas retorts of the kind in which combustion is effected between two banks of retorts, the products passing over the upper retorts and descending downtake flues between the retorts and the sides of the retort chamber, and in which the retort chamber is subdivided by cross walls, return passages fare provided between the downtake flues l and the combustion chambers in such position that the injector action of the combustible gases suffices to draw back some of the combustion products into the combustion zone. The volume of products returned may be controlled by damper blocks k, or by dampers on the ports g leading to the regenerators. In a modification the return passages are formed in the cross walls of the setting.
