[Class 40 (v)] The effect of local disturbance is minimized by using an aperiodic frame aerial R, Fig. 2, (which may be assumed to have a capacity coupling Co say of 20 cms. with a conductor L radiating the disturbance) and coupling the frame to the tuned input G through a primary winding L1 (preferably only a single turn) which presents a substantially-smaller impedance to the disturbing frequency than the capacity Co. The result is to confuse most of the total voltage-drop of the interfering frequency to the capacity Co, leaving only a small residual voltage to reach the input of the valve M. To remove the limitation due to the directional effect of a single frame aerial, two frame-aerials R, R1, Fig. 3, may be arranged at right angles, one being fitted with phase-adjusting means P; or a switch may be provided so that the particular frame producing the stronger signals is always used. The two frame aerials may be constituted by parts of the chassis of the set, or the housing of the loud speaker, so as to economize space.
