Abstract
436,889. Appliances for delivering hot air. BRITISH UNITED SHOE MACHINERY CO., Ltd., and BRAY, W. N., Union Works, Belgrave Road, Leicester. April 21, 1934, Nos. 12036 and 34289. [Class 126] An appliance for delivering a blast of hot air, particularly for use in shoemaking, comprises a casing 17 containing a combustion chamber to which gas and air are supplied, together with a mixing chamber to which the combustion products pass and to which air is separately supplied from a space 35 between it and the outer casing, the mixed combustion products and air being delivered as a hot blast. In the form shown, the combustion and mixing chambers are formed respectively within cylinders 21, 27 of refractory material having perforated walls through which air passes from jacket spaces 33, 35 formed between them and the outer casing, valves 47, 49 controlling separately the air supplies to these spaces. Gas, under control of a pin valve 9, is delivered into the end of the combustion chamber. A grid 25 of refractory material separates the combustion and mixing chambers, and may either be perforated as shown in Fig. 1, or of the branched form shown in Fig. 2 which is less liable to fracture under stress produced by heating and cooling.
