Abstract

426,484. Drying and heating apparatus for boots and shoes. BRITISH UNITED SHOE MACHINERY CO., Ltd., and CARR, J. W., Belgrave Road, Leicester. Sept. 30, 1933, No. 26917. [Classes 34 (ii) and 64 (ii)] In heating-apparatus for use in the manufacture of boots and shoes, drying chambers 1, similar to those described in Specification 303,211, [Class 17 (i)], are provided with perforated ducts 5 at their sides to admit air, and with ducts 7 at the top to withdraw air to a conduit 15. An air-heating chamber 13 is provided with an electric heater 25 controlled by a thermostat 31 through a relay 29. The chamber 13 is also provided with a gilledtube heater 35 supplied with steam or hot water, which is controlled by a thermostatic valve 41, 43. The electrical and steam or hot water heating may be used alternatively, or steam heating may be used when there is sufficient supply and may be supplemented by electrical heating if the steam is insufficient, or both may be used together. The valve and switch may be coupled together.
