Description
G. J. GOMNINOSM GAS BURNER.
APPLICATION FILED SEPT. 16, 1914.
Patented Jan. 5,1915.
GEORGE J. COMNINOS, OF PITTSBURGH, PENNSYLVANIA.
GAS-BURNER.
Original app1ieation filed April 8, 1914, Serial No. 830,377.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented J an. 5, 1915.
Divided and this application filed September 16, 1914;. Serial No. 862,002.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, GEORGE J. CoMNINos, a subject of the King of Greece, and residing in the city of Pittsburgh, in the county of Allegheny and State of Pennsylvania, have invented or discovered new and useful Improvements in Gas-Burners, of which the following is a specification.
This application is a division of my previous patent application filed April 8th, 1914'. Serial Number 830,377.
My present invention relates to burners for gas stoves, heaters and furnaces, and the object in view is topreheat the fuel before it is admitted to the perforated burner face, thereby expanding the same, improving its burning qualities and insuring its uniform distribution.
The objects are accomplished by me by providing within the burner a baffle which depends from the top of the former to Within a relatively short distance from the bottom thereof. The said baffle is preferably nearer the perforated burner face than to the rear wall of the burner thus forming a larger compartment adjacent to the rear wall of the burner and a smaller compartment adjacent to the burner face. The gas is admitted to the larger compartment at a point above the lower edge of the baffle.
In the accompanying drawings, which illustrate my invention applied to an annular gas burer, Figure l is a vertical section of the burner taken along the line II in Fig. 2, while Fig. 2 is a section of the same taken along the line 1I-11 in Fig. 1.
The following is a detailed description of the drawings.
The burner is of annular form comprised of an outer vertical wall 1 having a. plurality of gas perforations 2; an inner or rear wall 3; a top wall 4 and a bottom wall 5, all secured together with gas tight joints so that the only escape for the gas is through the perforations '2 where the gas is ignited and burns as jets in the usual manner.
Within the burner and depending from its top 4 is an annular battle 6 which extends down to a point a relatively short distance from the bottom 5, thus leaving a port l. The bafl'le 6 is nearer the front wall 1 than the rear wall 8 so that the compartment at in front of the balile is of less capacity than the compartment 2) in the rear of said baflie. A gas pipe 8 leads up through the bottom 5 and discharges in the rear compartment 1) at some distance above the port 7 beneath the baffle 6. When the burner is in use, the gas is admitted through the pipe 8 into the compartment 6 and is heated therein, expanding and being dis tributed at substantially uniform pressure through the length of said compartment. The gas is forced down underneath the baffie 6 into the compartment a wherein it rises and escapes in jets through the perforations 2. The gas is heated and thus is more readily and thoroughly consumed, reducing the amount of waste products of combustion. Also the supply of gas for the full extent of the chamber a is of uniform pressure so that the entire perforated wall 1 is evenly supplied.
What I desire to claim is z- 1. A gas burner for the purpose described comprising an inclosed annular body having its outer Wall perforated for the escape of gas in jets; an annular baffle wall depending within said body from the top thereof and dividing said body into two annular compartments communicating at the bottom, and means for admitting gas to the inner compartment above the lower edge of said bafile Wall.
2. A gas burner for the purpose described comprising an inclosed annular body having its outer wall perforated for the escape of gas in jets; an annular bafile wall depending within said body adjacent to said outer wall and dividing said body into two compartments, the inner compartment being of greater capacity and said compartments communicating at the bottom, and means for admitting gas to said inner compartment above the lower edge of said bafiie wall.
Signed at Pittsburgh, Penna, this 14th day of September, 1914:.
