Abstract
431,528. Chain - wheels. WILLIAMS, W. T., Benson Works, Foundry Lane, Birming- ham. Jan. 30, 1934, No. 3097. [Class 80 (i)] [See also Group XXXI] Driving-mechanism for tandem &c. cycles comprises the combination of a pair of chainwheels one or each of which is dished so that a face of one can abut against a face of the other, leaving the rim portions spaced at the required distance apart, and a plate &c. member engaging the central apertures of the two wheels for interconnecting them in an accurate concentric relationship. In the construction shown, a flat chain-wheel a and a dished chain-wheel b are secured together concentrically with their faces in contact by means of a plate d, which is secured to or formed on the boss of the crank c and is provided with a shoulder e to engage the central aperture in the wheel a the periphery f of the plate engaging a larger central aperture in the wheel b. The parts are secured together by screws g, h or rivets, shallow bosses i being preferably formed around some or all of the screw or rivet holes in the wheel a to engage corresponding recesses in the plate d and wheel b. In a modification, the central apertures in the chain-wheels are of equal diameter, and are engaged by a shouldered lateral extension on the crank, the outer end of the extension being riveted or spun over. In a further modification, equal central apertures are engaged by a bush fitted over a lateral extension on the crank.
