481,838. Cycle &c. driving-mechanism. KEUNEN, F. J. May 18, 1937, No. 13912. Convention date, May 16, 1936. [Class 136 (ii)] [Also in Group XXIV] In cycle &c. pedal-crank mechanism with a spring drive, of the type in which the chain wheel comprises relatively-rotatable inner and outer parts provided with co-operating radial arms with interposed tension springs, the arms connected with the outer or driven part are each provided with two stops, of which one rests against a stop on the inner part when the springs are contracted, and the other stop engages a stop on the arm of the inner part immediately behind it when the springs are extended to a predetermined limit. The chain wheel comprises an inner part 1 with a crank 2, and an outer toothed part 3. Tension springs 14 are interposed between radial arms 4, 10 on the parts 1, 3 respectively, the springs normally holding the ends 11 of the arms 10 against stops 16 on the inner part 1. Relative movement between the inner and outer parts 1, 3 is limited, on excessive driving forces, by the engagement of stops 9, 12 on the arms 4, 10 respectively. The arms 4 are provided with plates 5 having grooves at their outer ends to engage a flange 13 on the inner periphery of the outer part 3.
