472,121. Chain driving-mechanism for cycles &c. COATES, J. A., and PUNSHON, T. March 16, 1936, No. 7797. [Class 136 (ii)] Chain-driving-mechanism for cycles and like vehicles comprises a circular sprocket-wheel A attached to the driving-crank K (e.g. a pedal crank), and an oval or eccentrically-mounted sprocket-wheel B, which is so arranged and proportioned that the chain C is tensioned during the operative part of the stroke of the crank and is slackened while the crank is passing the dead-centre positions, a chainlifting jockey-wheel J being provided to prevent disengagement of the chain when slack. In a modification, the rear sprocketwheel is concentric, and the chain passes over an intermediate oval or eccentric sprocketwheel mounted on the cycle frame above the sprocket-wheel A.
