Abstract

462,113. Pedal - crank driving-mechanism. WARREN, C., and HARRIS, W. F. July 2, 1935, No. 18936. [Class 136 (ii)] [Also in Group XXIV] In variable-throw crank mechanism for bicycles and like vehicles and for other purposes, and of the type actuated by a fixed eccentric and a surrounding strap at the inner end of the crank, the eccentric strap is connected by a reciprocating link to an oscillating link on which the pedal &c. pin is mounted, the links being arranged in the following manner. As applied to pedal-crank driving-mechanism for cycles &c., the pin 7 of each pedal 6 is mounted at the end of an oscillating link 8 pivoted at 16 to the crank 2, the pin 7 being moved along an arcuate slot 9 by means of a link 14, which is pivotally connected by a pin 13 to a strap 11 revolubly mounted by ball or roller bearings 12 on an eccentric 10 fixed to the bottom bracket of the cycle frame. The strap 11 is carried round with the crank by means of antifriction rollers 17 engaging a recess 18 in the crank. The link 14 is accommodated in a continuation of the recess 18.
