Abstract

644,492. Cycle pedals. MATTHIAS, E. Jan. 5, 1948, No. 333. Convention date, Sept. 8, 1947. [Class 136 (ii)] In a cycle pedal constructed as a two-armed double lever and comprising two side plates 1, 2 connected by two cross stays 3, 4 forming foot rests for the front and rear parts respectively of the foot, the cross stays 3, 4 are mounted on downwardly directed stiffening members la, 2a, the frame springing in relation to the axis of the pedal, being reinforced by a pin 14 arranged below and parallel to the axis of the pedal so that the centre of gravity is below the pedal axis. As shown, the pedal is journalled on a crank pin 6 by means of a bush 5 which passes through slots 10 in the side plates 1, 2 allowing the frame to move relatively to the crank pin 6 in the direction of the axis A-A, Fig. 1, and also to be rocked around the axis B-B, Fig. 2. A V-shaped plate spring 13 is provided having ends 13a, 13b engaging with slots in the side plates 1, 2 the vortex of the V resting on the bush 5.
