Abstract

645,846. Cycle frames. KROON, G. Sept. 8, 1947, No. 24679. Convention date, June 4. [Classes 136 (i) and 136 (iii)] [Also in Group XXII] Bicycle frames consisting of integral tubes 1-4, carrier 5, chain case 9, rear mudguard 6, stays 8 and lamp casing 7 are stamped out in two pieces divided generally down the central plane of the frame, pressed to the half profile and welded along the abutting edges. The prong of the rear fork, Fig. 5 on one piece comprises an outwardly flanged chain case 9 which may be corrugated for additional strength and is continuous with an inwardly flanged stay 8 which is integral with and transmits the load to the mudguard. The prong on the other piece comprises a flanged channel 10 similarly continuous with a stay 81 and joining the tubes 2. 4 at an enlarged portion 25 which is welded to the chain case 9 forming a box with flanges 19, 191 for the crank axle. The usual member between the rear axle and saddle may be provided in which case the mudguard and stays may be of lighter construction. The carrier 5 comprises a broadened and flattened portion of the mudguard which has flat faces 27 for an overcoat guard. The chain case is covered by a celluloid plate 23 and a recess 33 (not shown) for the removal of the chain wheel from the rear end of the chain case is closed by a plate 16.
