[Class 3(ii)] [Also in Group XXXI] In cycle mudguards the rear end of the rear mudguard 1 has a substantially vertical opening 2 provided with a cover plate 8 which can be moved clear of the opening when the rear wheel is to be removed. As shown in Fig. 1 the opening 2 is provided by an inverted U-shaped assembly formed by two pressings 3, 3 welded together about a longitudinal centre line 4 and welded at 5 to the rear mudguard 1. The cover plate 8 consists of a registration number plate secured by bolts 9 to extensions 6, 6 of the pressings 3, 3. A housing 10 is provided in the pressings for a lamp 11. In a modification shown in Fig. 4 the opening 2 is formed by the pressings 3, 3 and an additional flat plate 14 forming a housing 15 for a rear lamp 16. As shown in Fig. 5 the number plate 8 consists of a shallow pressing provided with a strengthening flange 23 and slotted lugs 20 adapted to be clamped between the extensions 6, 6 and the mudguard stays 13. Alternatively, the plate 8 may be slidably or pivotally mounted on the pressing assembly.
