Abstract
415,272. Flexible sprockets. ENDERSEN, J., Farrenferris, Co. Cork, Irish Free State. Sept. 21, 1933, No. 26080. Convention date, June 14. [Class 80 (ii).] In rotary-crank driving-mechanism for cycles, of the type'comprising a resilient transmission, the driving sprocket-wheel is in the form of a disc rotatably mounted between two disc-like members fixed relatively to the cranks, springs or other resilient devices being interposed between the sprocket wheel and the disc-like members and mounted in arcuate slots in the sprocket wheel registering with arcuate slots or embossed recesses in the disc-like members. The pedal &c. cranks are fixed to a disc member 1 which is secured by screws 10 to a second disc member 9, the sprocket wheel 3 being mounted between the outer parts of the discs so as to be free to rotate on a shoulder 4 on the member 1. Springs 7 or other resilient devices, such as rubber blocks encased in collapsable metal tubes, are mounted in slots 6 in the sprocket wheel 3 and in recesses 5, 5<a> on the opposite faces of the members 1, 9. To facilitate assembly of the springs, the recesses 5, 5<a> are slightly longer than the slots 6, and when the springs are in position they are compressed by relative rotation of the parts, a screw stud being then inserted through holes in the members 1, 9 and through a slot 13 in the sprocket wheel, and the parts allowed to rotate in the reverse direction until the screw stud engages the end of the slot 13. In a modification, the recesses 5, 5<a> are replaced by beveledged slots.
