Abstract
428,660. Supplying air to furnaces. PICARD, A., 16, St. Bride Street, Ludgate Circus, London.-(Soc. des Aciers et Metaux Soamet; 41, Boulevard du Midi, Brussels) Sept. 3, 1934, No. 25356. [Class 51 (i)] In a device for admitting and heating a supply of secondary air for furnaces and the like comprising a mass a of refractory material of elongated form in which is provided a tortuous passage b having an orifice at each of its extremities, the passage increases progressively in cross sectional area from one extremity d to the other c. The passage may be formed by embedding a tortuous tube in a mass of refractory material which may be cast iron or material similar to that used for firebricks. The device may be embodied in the wall of the furnace ; on, behind, or in front of the firebridge or may itself constitute the bridge. If necessary the inlet orifice is connected by a conduit or passage with a source of supply for the secondary air.
