Abstract

445,231. Regulating air supply. JOHNSON, G. W., 47, Lincoln's Inn Fields, London.-(American Engineering Co. ; Aramingo Avenue, Philadelphia, U.S.A.) July 30, 1935, No. 21625. [Class 51 (i)] In apparatus for controlling the air supply to various sections of a furnace grate of the kind comprising a series of dampercontrolled Venturi ducts leading from an air pressure chamber to the grate, an air flow indicating device is provided and connected to each of the ducts and manually operated means is employed to actuate the dampers in accordance with the readings of the indicating device. As shown in the Figure, pressure air from the chamber C flows through Venturi ducts E to the grate B and a manometer N is connected to the chamber C by a pipe P and to the throats of the Venturi ducts by pipes O, O<1>, &c. Dampers M are adjusted by hand levers in accordance with the readings of the manometer. One side H of each Venturi duct is hinged at J and adjusted by a rod Q provided with a threaded portion or portions R engaging a threaded sleeve or sleeves S on one or more hinged side members H to vary the size of the Venturi duct or ducts.
