Abstract

269,700. Bengtson, S. L. Feb. 4, 1926. Blast furnaces. - In blast furnace plant comprising a number of blast furnaces A to which air under pressure is delivered by means of a common air main B and individual branch pipes C, automatically operating constant volume regulating devices E are fitted in each branch pipe to supply a constant volume of air independent of the resistance in the furnace. From the branch pipes C the air passes to one or more heating stoves F and thence by pipes J to the blast furnaces A. A pipe K controlled by a valve L allows cold air to be admitted direct to the pipe J from the pipe C. The waste gases from the stoves F escape through a stack M. One convenient form of automatic constant volume regulating device E comprises two diaphragm or bellows-carrying chambers communicating by pipes with spaces in the branch pipe C on opposite sides of a pressure-difference creating device in the branch pipe, the bellows being connected by levers with the control valve of a servomotor operating a valve in the branch pipe.
