428,629. Knitting-machines. GRIEVE & CO., Ltd., T., and GRIEVE, T. S., Queen Street, Leicester. Nov. 28, 1933, No. 33319. [Class 74 (ii)] Circular machines; sinkers.-In a circular machine of the double axially opposed needle cylinder type the holding-down sinkers 3 have wide throats 4 and are moved inwards earlier and to a smaller extent than usual for web holding purposes so that the plain needles a can first draw yarn over the usual draw edges 8 and then the rib needles a<1> draw yarn round the lower edges of the sinker ribs 5. The sinkers are then moved further inwards to hold down the web. The sinkers may be outside the needle cylinder as described in Specification 404,064, or inside the same. After knitting several rows on the plain needles for making a welt, the web is held down during the first row of knitting by the rib needles a<1> by a disc or wheel 25 which is moved into position by a cam, a lever 28, &c. During reciprocatory knitting the yarn holder 15 is raised by means of levers &c. 50, 55 and another cam.
