Abstract

352,543. Knitting-machines. HOLMES, H. H., LEEDHAM, L. H., and WILDT & CO., Ltd., Adelaide Works, Leicester. April 11, 1930, No. 11603. [Class 74 (ii).] To increase the space available for the passage of a wale thread guide 12 between adjacent needles, the heads of alternate needles are separated more widely in a radial and for circumferential direction than when in the knitting position. One method of doing this is to crank the stems of the respective needles 14 either forwardly or backwardly. Certain sinkers may be provided with lateral projections 17 which deflect the respective needles. Alternatively certain needles may be pressed out of line by a notched wheel or the bottom of certain needle tricks may be out of line with others, so that when the needles are elevated their heads are not in line.
