Abstract
398,955. Knitting-machines. HEMPHILL CO., Central Falls, Rhode Island, U.S.A.-(Assignees of Lawson, R. H. ; 55, Cooke Street, Pawtucket, and Cloutier, A. N. ; 495, Board Street, Lonsdale, both in Rhode Island, U.S.A.) May 12, 1932, No. 13660. Convention date, May 28, 1931. [Class 74 (ii).] Jacks 13, each having a bevelled lower end 28, are provided below the needles, so that other jacks 18 arranged beneath the jacks 13 are normally deflected outwardly so as not to actuate the needles. Cams 26 are arranged at levels corresponding with butts 24 on the jacks 18 to prevent deflection of selected jacks so that the corresponding needles are actuated. The jacks 13 may be replaced by tail pieces on the needles 6. The jacks 18 are retained within their tricks by rings 31, 21. In a modification, Fig. 11, the lower jack 44 is normally held in engagement with the intermediate jack 57 by a spring 52, and selection and displacement by a cam 26 moves the upper end of the jack 44 out of operative engagement with the jack 57. In each construction the needles are permitted to move downwardly without depressing the corresponding lower jacks.
