Abstract

378,946. Knitting. MELLOR, BROMLEY, & CO., Ltd., BROMLEY, T. C., and SHORTLAND, A., Minotaur Works, St. Saviour's Road East, Leicester. May 20, 1931, No. 14864. [Class 74 (ii).] Openwork is produced by alternately holding and releasing sinker loops for a certain number of courses. The sinker loops are held by needles which take no other part in the knitting operations. By causing loop retention to occur at different wales in different courses the disposition of the openwork effect can be varied. The fabric may be knitted on the dial needles of a six-feeder circular machine, yarn being withheld from one of the feeders. While the dial needles are knitting the cylinder needles take and accumulate the sinker loops for five courses and cast off on the sixth. No clearing cam is provided for the cylinder cams but selected needles are raised by jacks as described in Specification 329,369, [Class 74 (ii), Knitting &c.], at each of the first five feeds. At the sixth feed station, all the cylinder needles are raised and since no yarn is fed at this station, the accumulated loops are cast off. Accumulation of loops can then be started again on the same or a different selection of needles, and so on. Figs. 1, 2, 3, and 4 (not shown) illustrate suitable cam systems.
