Abstract

495,379. Knitting-machines. JACQUARD KNITTING MACHINE CO., Inc. May 8, 1937, No. 13201. Convention date, May 9, 1936. [Class 74 (ii)] A cylinder-and-dial rib machine is provided with means for selecting needles at a feeder to take or omit taking yarn and means disposed at a point removed from the feeder for making a selection from those needles which took yarn and causing the selected needles to shed their loops. As described, the machine is provided with two feeders A, B and a shedding station T angularly disposed from each of the feeders so that the needles can be selected for shedding entirely independently of the selection at the feeders for taking yarn. The patterning means comprises a number of pattern drums 14 distributed around the machine and carrying perforated paper patterns. Two yarn guides 29, 30, movable into and out of operative position under pattern control may be provided at each feeder: At the shedding station, cams 33, 34, 35 are provided for raising the cylinder needles 5 to such position that clips 24 thereon are thrust into the loops on the needles, and cams 36, 37 act upon the dial needles 6 to project them into the clips 24 so that as the cylinder needles are retracted by a cam 38 the loops are transferred to the disc needles. A cam 39 serves to restore the dial needles to their rest position. Needles that do not shed their loops pass along a track 40, the needles selected by the appropriate pattern drum 14 and raised by a cam 16 are actuated by the cams 33, 34, 35. A cam 47 may be raised when it is desired to transfer all cylinder loops to the dial needles. Cams 17, 18 arranged to raise needles selected by the pattern drums 14 at the feeders A, B, may be adjustable so that the needles may either be raised to clearing or to tucking position. By providing means for racking the dial needles with respect to the cylinder needles, a racked selvedge can be produced. Knitted fabrics.-Fabrics patterned by eyelets, dropped stitches, rib work on a jersey background, tuckwork, or by using yarns of different colour may be made. The fabric may be made in the form of individual garment pieces joined together by draw threads, and having a racked selvedge and a broad rib border or cuff. Specification 223,619, [Class 74 (ii)], is referred to.
