Circular machines; ; straight-bar machines; webholders; knitting, methods of.-Relates to a method of knitting gores and to apparatus therefor, for use in connection with bearded needle machines, whereby the formation of eyelet holes is avoided or minimized. The yarn 17 is laid directly against the needle stems, without the aid of sinkers. The upper ribs 22 of the web holders are rather shallower than usual to aid in preventing slack from gathering in that part of the yarn which wraps round the stems of the first two needles of the column of inactive needles. The web holders are withdrawn at this point to bring the ends of the nibs 22 level with the outer face of the needle shanks. This prevents the web holders in front of the inactive needles from trapping the yarn while allowing the yarn to get below the nibs 22 of the web holders co-operating with the active needles. Individual rocking pressers 18 are preferably employed and their actuating cams are mounted on the web holder cam ring 32. Specification 20101/09 is referred to.
