Abstract

428,101. Loft-ladders. MILLES, R. D., Olinda, Elm Croft Lane, Hightown, Liverpool. Jan. 10, 1934, No. 909. [Class 20 (ii)] A loft-ladder device, of the kind in which the ladder is slidably mounted on a hinged door, comprises a cable 30 passing over pulleys at the free and hinged edges respectively of the door 8, the ends of the cable being connected to the ladder and a spring-control drum 24 mounted on the loft floor adjacent the opening side of the door. In the construction shown, the ladder comprises two sliding sections 1, 2 fitted with guide-straps 4, 3, and pivoted catches 37 for locking the sections in the telescoped position. The drum 24 is rotatably mounted on a spindle 25, the tension of the spring (the ends of which are connected to the drum and spindle) being adjusted by means of a handle 27 keyed to the spindle and locked by a pin 29. The door is opened from below, and the ladder lowered, through the agency of a hook 33 secured to the underlying section of the ladder.
