Abstract
496,612. Loft-ladders. GLEINSER, U. Nov. 9, 1937, No. 30681. Convention date, Nov. 14, 1936. [Class 20 (ii)] A collapsable loft-ladder is formed in two parts with a sliding hinge connection between the parts, and can be slid along a hinged trap door which is counterbalanced and maintained in closed position with the ladder retracted. The trap-door 8 is counterbalanced by an adjustable weight 13 slidably mounted on a rod 14 attached to the door at the hinged end, and is provided with a rod 15 and a hook 10, to engage a hook 17 and rod 9, respectively, on the ladder. The rod 14 serves as a hand rail for the upper end of the ladder. The ladder is formed in two parts 1, 2 provided with a sliding hinge connection 5, 7, the lower portion only of the part 1 having steps 3, so that as the ladder is extended, the upper part can swing into line with the lower part about the rod 5, as shown in Fig. 5. The ladder is detachable from the trap-door for separate use.
