Abstract
594,253. Latches. COOPER, J. T. May 23, 1945, No. 12824. [Class 44] A double latch includes a length of iron strip 1 bent to form three sides of a rectangle which is bolted at the centre 3 of its vertical side to the door 2 ; another iron strip 5 is riveted to the upper and lower arms of the frame 1 at a slight angle and is bent over at the top to form a handle 6, by means of which the horizontal arms of the frame can be raised to disengage their outer ends from two lips secured to the door jamb 9, each lip comprising a backing 10 of heavy gauge tin and a short strip 11 of iron fixed at its lower end to the backing. A strip of heavy gauge tin 7 placed between the arms of the frame 1 and the door forms a backing, which is secured at top and bottom to the door together with a strip of iron 8 placed in front of the same, thus forming a guide for them.
