138,501. Morgan, J. E. April 23, 1919. Ladders.-A step-ladder is provided with an extension ladder a sliding between a back runner b and cut-away parts of the steps. The extension a is supported in any position by an iron fitting m pivoted on a rod r to the main flight and falling automatically, when the extension is drawn out, beneath a step and re.sting against an inclined strip z. A platform is hinged to the top cross-piece of the back-stay and provided with slotted side pieces g engaging pins secured to the runner b. The platform acts as a strut for the back-stay, and, when the ladder is folded, takes an upright position The extension is actuated by a cord passing over a pulley on the top cross-piece of the back-stay, and attached to the bottom of the extension.
