[Class 143] [See also Group XX] Relates to a weighing-apparatus affording a direct indication of the percentage change in weight of a sample, for example in ascertaining the moisture content of butter, wood or wool, or the percentage of dye in textiles or for comparing the weight of an article with a standard, and consists in providing the apparatus with an adjustable counterbalancing weight 11 mounted on an inclined spindle 10 for adjustment between a stop 10<a> and the longitudinal axis of the weighbeam, the stop being located so that a known test load will bring the weighbeam to zero position when the counterbalancing weight 11 is situated against the stop. The spindle 10 may be carried by a mass 8 as shown in Fig. 1, or may pass through the fulcrum of the weighbeam as shown in Fig. 2. In using the apparatus the sample is placed on the pan 7 and the weight 11 is adjusted to zeroize the pointer 12. The sample is then heated for the requisite time and re-weighed, the deflection of the pointer then indicating the percentage loss of moisture.
