Abstract
896,931. Load indicating mechanisms. AVERY Ltd., W. & T. Aug. 24, 1959 [Sept. 16, 1958], No. 29570/58. Class 143. A load indicating mechanism for a weighing apparatus or physical testing machine comprises a cranked lever 6 which is fulcrumed in bearings 5 on a frame 1 by means of a spindle 4 carried by the horizontal arm 6a of the lever 6 near the angle of the lever, a load transmitting rod 9 coupled to the lever at the angle thereof through a knife edge bearing 10, a load resistant spring 8 coupled to the free end of the horizontal arm 6a through a knife-edge bearing 7, and a rack 16, engaging a pinion on a pointer spindle 18, pivotally connected to the free end of the downwardly directed arm 6b of the cranked lever 6 so as to be further from the fulcrum pin 4 than the load bearing 10 and thereby provide a magnified movement of the pointer. As shown the spring 8 is anchored one arm 26a of a bell-crank 26 which is pivotally secured to the frame and has its other arm bearing against an adjustable stop 27 operable by a knob 29 to effect zeroing of the pointer. The rack 16 is connected by a C-spring 15 to a housing 13 which is pivotally mounted on the end of a screw-threaded rod 11 extending from the free end of the lever arm 6b to be adjustable in the direction of length thereof, an adjustable counterweight 21 being provided on the housing 13 and the rack 15 being supported in engagement with its pinion by a roller.
