Abstract
939,310. Testing physical qualities of materials. BRITISH IRON & STEEL RESEARCH ASSOCIATION. March 25, 1960 [March 2, 1959], No. 7134/59. Class 106 (2). A specimen 6 is stressed by means of a fixed weight or spring load 9 acting through a lever arm 4 and a varying stress is applied by an electromagnetic vibrator 16 also acting on the arm 4. The stress at any moment is indicated on an oscilloscope 39, being measured by a ring-type load cell 23, and the strain, measured by an extensometer 35, is recorded on a recorder 37. The range of frequencies of the vibrations may be from 200-3000 cycles per minute depending on the type of vibrator used. The machine may be adapted for compressive tests.
